My story ‘Flatemate Wanted: Smokers Welcome’ has been accepted for publication in this year’s Crime Writers’ Assocation anthology ‘Guilty Parties’.
I submitted my story back in August 2013 and was told that I’d probably hear back in November if I was successful. I heard nothing so, when an email from Martin Edwards (the editor) arrived the other day, I assumed it was the obligatory ‘thank you so much but…’ It wasn’t. It was good news. I’m in! I couldn’t be more chuffed. People assume that, when you’ve had a few novels published, you’re brimming with writerly confidence but, from my experience and having met a lot of other other authors, that couldn’t be further from the truth. We’re riddled with insecurities!
So yes, this news couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve just started re-drafting my second psychological thriller and a little boost to my confidence is just what I need to attack it with gusto. This is the calm before the PR/publicity/marketing storm when ‘The Accident'(UK)/’Before I Wake'(US) come out in April and June so I need to rewrite as much as I can while I can.
