C. L. Taylor’s writing is like a lid being screwed down. Tighter and tighter it gets, and you know at some point the drama will just explode.’ Jeremy Vine

I’ve read The Lie and it is hands down one of the best books I’ve read. Currently reading The Missing. Are you publishing any other books any time soon? Absolutely love your work

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Emily, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m thrilled that you’re enjoying my books. If you haven’t already read my first book The Accident (Before I Wake in the U.S.) you still have that option. If you have my next book will be out on 6th April 2017. All the best, Cally.

  2. Bridgette Bruckshaw says:

I have read all your books and been hooked on them from start to finish. I found the main characters easy to identify with, especially Missing as I have a teenage son. My favourite book is The Lie. I’m looking forward to your next book!

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thanks Bridgette, I’m so pleased you’ve enjoyed my books and that you can relate to the characters. That means a lot to me. I hope you enjoy the next one!

    2. peter mcneil says:

i agree your characters are easy to identify with.for me I like the way you make the female characters the heroin (.I think if the main character was male the books would not have appeal) I route for her in all your books I love the cliff hangers you put in the end of chapters keeps me turning the pagers. the accident was my first book I ever read it was very hard to put down. the only downside to your books the stories have to come to a end. I like your books so much I have to buy two copies of every book you bring out one for me to keep and the other I have to lend out please keep up the great work

      1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you Peter, I’m really touched by the reason you buy two copies of my books. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave me a message. I hope you continue to enjoy my books.

  3. Mikeanna King says:

I read The Lie and it is by far the best book I’ve EVER read!! You really outdid yourself when you wrote that book. Thankyou so much for you work. I think I’m going to read The Accident next, and then The Missing. I haven’t read those yet.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you so much for getting in touch, Mikeanna. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed The Lie and that you’re going to read my other books as a result. I hope really you enjoy them. Cally

  4. Andy says:

Hi Cally, I’m a 49 year old bloke who hasn’t read a book in 25 years. I have the attention span of a gold fish!! Thanks for “The Missing” . Fab stuff. May even try another now. Which would you recommend next?

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Andy, I can relate to the attention span of a goldfish thing and I’m honoured that one of my books kept your attention! The Accident is similar to The Missing in that it’s about a family with secrets or you could try The Lie which is very different and gets progressively darker as it goes along!

  5. rsharma1982 says:

Huge fan! All your books are gripping and I can’t wait for the next one….
I recently finished The Missing which was full of surprises and tension. Really enjoyed it. Thank you. Please let us know what your next book is called and when it is out.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello! Thanks so much for getting in touch. The next book is called THE ESCAPE and it will be published in the UK on 23rd March 2017. I also have a young adult book called THE TREATMENT which will be published in September 2017 (exact date to be finalised). All the best, Cally.

  6. Caroline says:

I’ve never written to an author before but I was very moved by The Missing and liked that you ended it with your personal note and reasons for writing so thought I’d look at your website.
Apart from being gripped by the story it spoke to me as I had bad times bringing up two teenage sons without fathers – and the continuing problems that gives right into adulthood. So it was great to read about a two parent family that was more dysfunctional than mine!! Made me feel better – and the jealousies and secrets were all so believable. Thank God I didn’t have the internet porn and social media to deal with – mine are in their thirties now.
So thank you. I just picked up your book in a charity shop but now I shall buy your others and look forward to them.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello Caroline, thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch. I really appreciate it. I’m so sorry to hear that you had such a tough time with your sons. Parenting boys alone must have been tremendously hard. I hope things are better for you now. All the best, Cally.

  7. Linda Mallandaine says:

Hi Cally…just finished reading The Missing (Christmas present from my daughter!)…..loved it…couldn’t sleep…just had to keep on reading til the end! Looking forward to reading your other books now.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi, Linda. I’m so pleased you enjoyed The Missing. I approve of your daughter’s taste in Christmas presents!

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thanks Maria. If you loved The Lie hopefully you’ll enjoy my YA book THE TREATMENT which is out this autumn. It’s not about a cult but it is about a young girl getting caught up in a dangerous situation she needs to escape from.

  8. Louise says:

As a none reader usually that wanted to start reading more often I started with the missing which I thought was great, then read the lie & then the accident loved them all & cant wait for your next one to be realised x

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Oh Louise, that’s wonderful. I’m touched and honoured that my books have got you reading more and I hope you enjoy The Escape. If you like crime short stories there’s a collection called ‘Dead Simple’, published by Quick Reads, that will be available for £1 at the beginning of February (featuring my story ‘Bird in a Cage’). Thanks so much for getting in touch. All the best, Cally.

  9. wallsoftor says:

    Hi
I have read the lie and the missing and they were both amazing. Im currently waiting for the accident to arrive in the post. Both of these books are brilliant and gripping, I have reviewed them both on my word press website although Totally new to this so have no idea if the reviews do the book justice. I just didn’t want to give too much away. Just wondered what kind of e-learning you do? And do you find this helps?
    Thanks
    Tor

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Tor, thanks so much for reading and reviewing my books. I used to work in eLearning – writing and developing courses and Masters degrees for private companies and universities. It was a very different skill to novel writing!

      1. wallsoftor says:

Hi thank you for your reply, that is very different to novel writing, what made you want to change? I’m glad you did your books are fab! Would love to write a book one day but my English writing skills aren’t 100%, wouldn’t really know where to start!

  10. Jane Davine says:

I’ve just read the 3 books you have published through recommendation of a friend. After reading ‘The Lie’ – the one she recommended- I immediately bought the other 2; I couldn’t put my Kindle/phone down until I’d finished all 3 in quick succession!
You are an amazing writer…Can’t wait until the next one to read in March (which I have pre-ordered 😊
The only trouble is: I am stumped as what to read now; there is a void in my head 🤔

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you so much, Jane. I’m so pleased that you’ve enjoyed all my books. If you’re stuck for something else to read in the psychological thriller genre I hugely recommend books by Mark Edwards, Tammy Cohen, Clare Mackintosh, Paula Daly and Amanda Jennings. Enjoy!

  11. Gabrielle says:

So excited for April 6th! I’ve even booked the day off work!!! The Missing was so capturing, I couldn’t put it down.. Continued reading whilst I ate, drank, ignored the phone. Brilliant!
    Love your work.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thanks Gabrielle! I hate to tell you this but the publication date for THE ESCAPE is now 23rd March! I hope you can move your day off!

  12. John Inston says:

I have just finished reading The Missing and was often annoyed by it but just could not put it down. It seemed familiar in style, and then I realised that you had also written The Lie which I read about four months ago. Same again, irritated but compelled to read it. At the tender age of seventy I have taken up writing myself and have just self-published my first book on Amazon and am about a third of the way into my second. I never realised how fulfilling writing could be. Both of my books are bigger stories but lack your depth of characterisation. My characters move forward throughout the book, whereas yours, especially the main character, repeats the same emotions, actions and thought processes – which in real life is what we actually do. It is something I really need to work on and aim at a simple, more everyday situation and concentrate on interrelationships. But I rather think that might be difficult. Cormack McCarthy does it really well. And so do you. A pleasure (if that Is the right word) reading your work and I will order the next when it arrives.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello John, lovely to hear from you. Firstly, congratulations on taking up writing. It’s never too late to start and I’m so pleased that you’re getting such pleasure from it. When I started writing I struggled with characterisation too. It’s very easy to create two dimensional characters who support the plot but don’t have any depth to them. These days I spend a lot of time thinking about my character’s back story – their past, why they are the way they are today, their fears, their dreams etc. If you pick up my next book, The Escape, I hope you find it as compelling as the two you’ve read (but less irritating!). All the best with your writing, Cally.

  13. Emily says:

    Dear Cally.
I love your books so much. I am so close to finishing “the lie” and I can’t put it down. You are the best author and I can’t wait to buy the escape when it comes out. How do you write so brilliantly? I never used to read but I saw the cover of your books and I thought I would give it a go. Now I call myself a bookworm and I cannot stop reading your books. You are so inspirational and I wanted to say thank you. Even when I am eating dinner, on a phone call out I still bring your book. I had to go out a few hours ago for a friend’s meeting. I never like going so I always bring one of your books and so I am not bored. I am super ecited for your new book to come out and I know It will be as good as the other books you have written. Well done on producing some amazing books and keep up your talent.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello Emily, what an amazing comment. I’m really touched by it. It’s the biggest compliment I could ever wish for that my books have turned you into a bookworm. That’s wonderful! I’ve been a bookworm since I was a child and I’d be lost without books. I really hope you enjoy The Escape. I think it’s my best book yet and I am very proud of it. I have also just finished a Young Adult thriller called The Treatment which should be out in September. Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch with me. Your message has made my day.

  14. Dee says:

    Hi,
I’m from Canada and when I was on vacation in Mexico i found and I read one of Your books and now I want to read more of them but it doesn’t seem like I can buy them in Canada. Do you know if they are available here?

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello Dee, thanks for taking the time to get in touch. I’m thrilled that you’ve discovered my books. I just checked Amazon.ca and Before I Wake (The Accident in the UK) and The Lie are available. The Missing will be available on 7th November 2017 and, fingers crossed, The Escape at some point in the future. I hope that helps.

    2. C.L. Taylor says:

P.S. If you are desperate to get hold of the other books The Book Depository offers free international shipping should you wish to order one of the UK paperbacks.

  15. Sviatoslav says:

So interesting a novel “The Lie” (in our russian translate was named “Sisters of lie”). Pretty unusual plot and characters, now in contemporary crime literature is a rarity/ I hope we will be posibility read your next books. Best regards!

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the Russian translation of The Lie. I hope my Russian publisher will buy the translation rights for more of my books so you can enjoy them.

  16. Bonnie says:

    Hi Cally,
I have just finished your 4th book, THE ESCAPE.
WOW!!!! Another excellently written thriller. Your book, THE LIE, has drawn me into a new genre of books – psychological thriller; I can’t get enough of it.
After reading The Lie, I bought The Accident and The Missing; now I have Book 4 to complete the collection. (Although at the moment book 1, 2 and 3 are out in circulation around my friends who’re enjoying them as much as I had).
I have a 13yrs old daugther, I would like to know if your upcoming book THE TREATMENT would be suitable for her; as she’s struggling to find a book that grip her attention at the moment. She’s always been reading books that are on a higher reading age; however, without giving too much away, I would like to know if it’s appropriate for early teens? Tbh, I probably read it myself too. 😊
Well done again for the release of THE ESCAPE, look forward to you next one.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Bonnie, I’m so pleased you’re enjoying my books and your reaction to The Escape made me smile. Thank you! Yes, The Treatment should absolutely be suitable for your 13 year old. There’s no sex, minimal violence and mild swearing (shit, bloody) but lots of gripping heart in the mouth moments. It’s about a girl who rescues her brother from danger and learns about the importance of friendship at the same time. Do let me know what she thinks if she reads it. All the best, Cally.

      1. Bonnie says:

        Hi Cally,
Thanks for the update, will definitely be buying THE TREATMENT for my daughter (maybe a stocking filler) and will b reading it myself.
Keep up the good work and looking forward to you new bookS!
        Regards,
        Bonnie x

  17. Michael wotton says:

    Sent via my Husband.
    Regards Carol

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you Carol, your comment made me laugh. I hope you live for another 20-30 years and I get to keep writing books for at least that long! I’m so pleased you enjoy my books. That means a lot.

  19. Aimee says:

    Just finished the escape !

One of the best books I’ve read in a long while ! I enjoyed it so much…. I must ask what ever happened to jo and Sean ! I can’t let go of not knowing 🙂 I can’t wait to read the other 3 books! What books was published April 6th 2017 ?

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you so much, Aimee. It wasn’t spelled out in my book but…

      * SPOILER ALERT *

      .
      .
      .
      .
      .
I thought that Jo and Sean would get together once she had got over what happened with Max. The Escape was originally due to be published on 6th April 2017 but publication was brought forward to 23rd March. My next book is a YA thriller (also suitable for adults!) called The Treatment which will be published on 19th October this year. I hope you enjoy The Accident, The Lie and The Missing. Let me know what you think! And if you have a second to write a review of The Escape on Amazon or one of the other ebook sites I’d hugely appreciated it. All the best, Cally.

  20. Katherine says:

Just finished reading The Escape and I couldn’t put it down! Looking forward to reading your other books now

  21. Kyle Taylor says:

Wow! Im not a big reader, just finished reading the escape, i couldn’t put it down.
Brilliant book! Looking forward to reading another.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you, Kyle. I’m so happy to read that. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a message. I really appreciate it. I hope you enjoy the other books.

  22. Angie says:

    Hi Cally,

  24. Alisa says:

    Hello!
I’m your huge fan from Russia, because you and your books are absolutely amazing!
My favorite book is “The Missing” and I would like to recieve your permission to translate it into Russian and publish it on the website “Fanfiction book”. In the description of the work, I will necessarily indicate you as the author and also a link to this site.
To be honest, I really hope for your permission, but if this isn’t possible, it’s okay! 🙂 Good luck with your brilliant works!

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello Alisa, thanks so much for your comment. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed The Missing. I am flattered that you would like to translate the book but please don’t as hopefully my Russian publisher will buy the rights to do that and bring out a paperback and ebook. It takes me a long time to write my books and it’s how I make my living. If people access my books for free on the Internet I
don’t make any money. And if I don’t make money I’ll have to stop writing and get a different job. Thank you for asking though, I appreciate your honesty when you could have just gone ahead and done it anyway. All the best, Cally

  25. Lynn Thom says:

I read The Accident, The Lie, The Missing and The Escape in record time. I simply couldn’t put them down! Thank you.

  26. Christine Sargent says:

I recently read The Accident and loved it. I’ve just finished The Missing and it was so real because I live in Knowle, shop in Broadwalk and drink at Charlies Bar! Perfect description of the area. You probably live round the corner from me and sometimes park out side my house! I know the park where Claire hid too! Thanks for your suggestions of other authors – I love psychological thrillers.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Christine, that made me laugh. We have almost definitely passed each other at some point as I’ve lived here for five years. So pleased that you enjoyed The Missing. The Escape is set in Bristol too although I don’t go into as much detail with the descriptions of the different places. Oh, and Redcatch Park features in my Young Adult book too!

  27. Reginald Gregory says:

It isn’t easy for me to want to read any book non stop but i have read ‘The Lie’, ‘The Accident’. ‘The Missing’ and have just finished reading ‘The Escape’. I didn’t have a favourite author until now. I find your books gripping and never can guess where the story is leading. Amazing. I write short stories and poems for a group every Thursday. Could you tell me (apart from personal experiences) where you get your ideas from and how could i aspire to write my own stories which would make people reluctant to put down the book.
Ironically my first name is Reg (not a lot of us left now) same as your father.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thank you Reg (great name!), that means a lot. Your question isn’t really one that I can answer briefly (I sometimes teach a workshop on how to write novels readers can’t put down) but I live by the Elmore Leonard quote ‘cut the parts that readers skip’. Keep description light, ensure every scene moves the action forward, make sure there’s lots of conflict, reveal new secrets and mysteries as the novel progresses, end chapters with cliffhangers. And my ideas? The Escape and the book I am writing now were inspired by news stories. All the best with your writing, Cally.

      1. Reginald Gregory says:

Thanks Cally for your reply. As you can see i did join the club in June but as yet have not received anything from your site. I know you are mega busy but at the moment i am out on a limb and do not know what to do to activate my account.
Thank you for Elmore Leonard and your tips. Please excuse my ignorance, but who is Elmore Leonard and i imagine he has had books published.
Enjoy the summer. May be you will see my work published in ‘Reader’s Digest’ or the ‘Beano’ one day.
On a personal level i see that your reply was timed at 6.44 am. I thought that you would have a leisurely day now you are a well read author.

  28. Catherine Simmons says:

Reading ‘ The Escape ‘ : can’t put it down. P126- re Max using Jo’s mental illness to get custody. Oh yes he would. An the rest. Anyway on p175 atm….:-)

  29. Karina Kristensen says:

    Hi
I just finished your book Missing, in danish it is called SAVNET and I absolute loved it. I have also read The Lie and I loved that one too. I really enjoy your books, i am excited for your next one.
    From
    Karina in Denmark

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello Karina, thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the Danish translations of The Lie and The Missing. Fingers crossed there will be more Danish translations of my books! All the best, Cally

  30. jwalmsley01 says:

    Hi,
I was given The Missing as a Christmas present and after really enjoying that I have now also read The Lie and The Escape and I am anticipating the arrival of The Accident tomorrow!
You’re writing style is so inspiring to a budding author and your books keep me engaged and excited for the full read!
I can’t wait to read your new YA novel and all the many more books to come!
    Jess 🙂

  31. Liam says:

I’ve read The Missing, The Escape and am currently reading The Lie, I think all three have been brilliantly written and the stories have been so engaging, hands down one of the best authors our country has ever produced
Can’t wait for the next adventure!!

  32. Liam says:

I have read The Missing, The Escape and am currently reading The Lie and all three have been absolutely brilliant, wonderfully written with great plots and engaging characters, one of the best authors this country has ever produced and I can’t wait for the next adventure!!!

  33. Clare Anderson says:

Pleased to have found your book club – have read all your books and have enjoyed everyone of them and now looking forward to reading this new short story.

  34. Liam says:

I finished reading The Lie yesterday, it was great and I loved the ending
Of all your books, The Escape is my favourite but I wondered if you had a favourite and why?

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Liam, thanks for getting in touch. That’s such a tough question. My favourite book is the one I’ve just finished (out on 22nd March) because I hugely enjoyed writing Wendy, one of the characters. She’s unlike any character I’ve written before. But, out of my published books, it’s probably The Escape.

  35. Patricia says:

Read all your books, as recommended by the Sunday times, enjoyed them all, I pass them round my “book club”, I.e. we meet once month for dinner, all us ladies love them, the intrigue, and the plots! Our latest was the Escape, can’t wait for the next one ,

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hello Patricia, thanks so much for leaving me a message. So happy to hear that you and the ladies in your book club enjoy my books. I hope you all enjoy The Fear (out on 22nd March). All the best, Cally.

  36. laurasbookroomblog says:

I have read all of your books Cally and I’m hooked on every one of them as soon as I start, because I know I’m going to be reading quality and getting scared to bejibbers, with my heart racing faster than Bradley Wiggins in a yellow jumper !
I have shared your titles with my shared reading groups as I read for the reader.org.uk and some of my members are also hooked.
Keep up the good work ! I am so excited to see what 2018 brings us from you
    Thank you 🌷

  37. Wendy Guerreiro says:

I have read all of your books and can’t wait for The Fear to come out in March
Your books are a fantastic read and I could not put any of them down
    Thank you

  38. Yolande Brooks says:

Hi I have only just discovered you and have read The Lie which was a fantastic read and The Treatment both of which I could not put down .. I am a bit mystified though at the end of The Treatment you don’t reveal who it is looking “through binoculars”… and ends there. Does this mean a second follow up book. I will certainly be reading all your books. I love your forthright style.
    Yolande

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thanks Yolande, so glad you have enjoyed my books. I did leave the ending of The Treatment open in case I ever write a second book about Drew and the binoculars hint that thr corruption in the goverment goes higher than they realise and they are all being watched…

  39. Melissa Gamble says:

I adore her style of writing, i have read the lie and accident so far snd just ordered the escape, which i cannot wait for it to arrive. I would reccomend her books to everyone.

  40. Sarah says:

    Hello.

I’ve read all of your books, the most recent three as audiobooks using the charity “Listening Books” My physical disability now makes reading print difficult but I enjoy the escapism of an audiobook. I would love to read The Lodger and the upcoming new book and hope they will appear as audiobooks In the Listening Books library soon. As soon as they appear they will get an immediate download and I will continue to introduce friends to your books. Keep up the amazing work x

Hello Sarah, lovely to hear from you. I’m so glad you enjoy my books. The Fear has been narrated by the very talented Clare Corbett who narrated The Missing. The book and audio book will be published on 22nd March so I imagine it will appear in the Listening Library shortly afterwards. As the Lodger is a short story there are no plans to have it officially narrated but I could read it and send you a link to download it for free if that would be helpful. Just let me know your email address if so. Thanks again for getting in touch, Cally.

    Hi, Cally,
I absolutely relish your books. You are a fantastic writer. I cannot put your books down, then, when I get to the last few pages, I read them so slowly, gutted that I have to step out of their world.
I joined your book club, a few days back, dying to read The Lodger, but I cannot seem to access it, help!
    With love and respect,

    Hi Cally
I had the same problem as one of your other fans and could not access the lodger despite signing up. Also currently reading your latest novel the fear which I am only half way through but I am gripped and loving the alternative chapters between characters. Just wanted to point out a mistake I found while reading on chapter. 21 Chloe,at the beginning of the chapter fourth line down it says

When her he dad dropped her off before school he told her wouldn’t be able to pick her up. The first HE should not be there and instead should of been put before wouldn’t.

Don’t know if I am the only one with this mistake or whether all the books are the same but I kept reading the line over and over thinking this does not make sense.

Have read all your books and have loved every single one, looking forward to your next book.

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Thanks Jemma, I’m so glad you’re enjoying The Fear. Thanks for letting me know about the error. It’s been picked up and will be corrected in the ebook and the next paperback printing. Have you checked your junk email folder for the confirmation email from the book club? Once you have confirmed membership you’ll be emailed with the link to download The Lodger. If you can’t find the confirmation email make sure you add cltaylorauthor@gmail.com to your contacts list within your email then try joining again. All the best, Cally

My wife introduced me to your books and I love how you write. So far I have read The Lie and Before I Wake. I have ordered The Accident, The Missing, and The Fear. Is there any other books of yours that I should add to my collection?

    1. C.L. Taylor says:

Hi Keith, lovely to hear from you. I’m so glad you enjoy my books (and a big thank you to your wife for introducing you to them!). You don’t say where you’re based but the books I’ve had published in the UK are The Accident, The Lie, The Missing, The Escape and The Fear. I’ve also had a young adult thriller published called The Treatment. I’m not sure if you’re aware but Before I Wake is actually the US title for The Accident. It’s the same book. In the U.S. the books that have been published so far are Before I Wake, The Lie and The Missing. Thanks again for getting in touch, Cally.

      1. Keith W Hagans says:

Thank you so much for your response. I am based in the US. I will have to get The Treatment. I try my best to keep up on your latest books but for the most part when I ordered them ( standard shipping) It takes a month to received them from the UK. Again thank you so much for getting me back into reading. Hopefully one day I will get an autograph copy of one of your books.
