Delivered book 11, Southampton, Harrogate and Bute

Hello! Here’s a photo of me and the wonderful Elizabeth Haynes in Swaffham in Norfolk last weekend.

The brilliant team behind ‘Authors, Cakes and Books’ put on an afternoon tea, invited me along to chat about my books with Elizabeth, and, in total, the event raised over £1,600 for The Norfolk Hospice. A brilliant way to raise money and a truly lovely event.

If you haven’t been to an event to see me this year there are still several to choose from!

I’ll be in Waterstones SOUTHAMPTON this Thursday 13th June, with Louise Candlish. Tickets available here.

On 20th July I’ll be in HARROGATE chairing a panel for the Theakstons Old Peculiar crime festival (the panelists are Lucy Foley, Jack Jordan, Catherine Ryan Howard and Louise Candlish and I’ll be grilling them about their twisty plots). My books will be available to buy in the bookshop tent so do come along to the signing after the panel if you want anything signed. Tickets available here.

In August I’ll be appearing at BUTE Noir (so excited to visit!) and will be interviewed alongside Luca Veste by Gavin Bell. Pick up tickets from Print Point in store or call them on 01700503389

There are more events in the pipeline for this year, including another one in Scotland, and one in Ireland (I haven’t been to Ireland for YEARS so am particularly thrilled about that), but I can’t share details until they’re officially announced so watch this space.

As I mentioned in the title I HAVE DELIVERED BOOK 11!

That’s me looking knackered and make-up free after twelve days writing in a row without a day off. Actually, I didn’t have many days off in May because I had to write about a third of the book!

I started it in September but got off to a VERY slow start and my plan to have 3/4 of the book written by December just didn’t happen. In January I did my best to catch up but the pre-publication plans for Every Move You Make started to niggle at me and distract me and, in February, March and April I pretty much gave up on writing because I was either touring, writing articles, being interviewed, doing podcasts or – nerve-wrackingly – appearing on national radio.

Having promised my editor the book at the end of February, then asked for an extension until the end of May, there was no question of me asking for ANOTHER extension so, in May, I got my head down and wrote! No one could have been relieved than me when I hit send at around 5.50pm on 31st May. Then the next day I went off to do an event at Capital Crime!

I’m currently in the two week ‘break’ while my editor puts together her structural edit notes -although I had the Norfolk event last weekend and am in Southampton on Thursday so not a huge amount of resting is being done! I have finished a cross-stitch though and I’m determined to tidy my study before the edits arrive and scramble my brain.

Book 11 only has a working title so far and I’m loath to say too much about it at this stage but I’m pitching it as ‘The Staircase meets Big Little Lies’. So basically it’s about a single mum in a new town, a gossipy school mum clique, and a man who may or may not be as dangerous as they claim…

More about that very soon!
